Driving From Sarajevo to Dubrovnik

The drive from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik is one of the most spectacular road trips in the Balkans. Covering approximately 260 km, the journey takes around 4-5 hours depending on your route choice and border crossing wait times. Along the way, you will pass through the dramatic Neretva River valley, the historic city of Mostar, and the sun-soaked landscapes of southern Herzegovina before crossing into Croatia.

Route Options

  • Via Mostar (recommended, 260 km): The most popular route passing through Konjic, Jablanica, and Mostar. Stop at Stari Most bridge and grab lunch before continuing south through Capljina to the border at Metkovic
  • Via Trebinje (290 km): A slightly longer but equally scenic alternative through eastern Herzegovina, passing Foca and Trebinje before entering Croatia near Dubrovnik
  • Stop at Kravice Waterfalls: A 15-minute detour from the Mostar route takes you to this stunning waterfall, perfect for a refreshing swim in summer
